Lily Liu, a senior at Gunn High school, has organized a concert to benefit Neighbors Abroad, the official sister city organization of Palo Alto. The concert, which will be performed by Liu and some of her fellow local students, will include performances on the guzheng (an ancient Chinese instrument), piano, violin and a demonstration of Tai Chi and dance. The benefit concert will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Center, 555 Middlefield Road, Atherton. Tickets are $10-$50 and can be ordered online.

  1. Thanks Lily and your fellow musicians for sharing your talent and organizing a fund raising event for a worthy non profit, Neighbors Abroad. Our sister communities abroad need our support!

  2. At Neighbors Abroad we are welcoming new collaborations with our local Chinese community. This event symbolized this collaboration, opening local eyes to the music and arts of China. One forgets how talented our youth are, and the initiative taken to bring such an evening forward. At one level, I had wished it was more widely attended because it was eye opening. There will be more opportunities. We have begun an effort to bring Yangpu District of Shanghai as a future sister city of Palo Alto, and the evening marked progress to that end, and shows what sister city initiatives can do for our community. Thanks Lily and the other Gunn and Paly students.
