Widespread rain is expected this weekend in the San Francisco Bay, National Weather Service officials said. Palo Alto has a 90 percent chance of precipitation Saturday.

The storm will spread south from the north bay Saturday. Through Monday, as much as 0.5 inches of rain could fall in Palo Alto, according to weather officials.

The storm will also bring breezy conditions to the area, with strong gusts in some places. The winds in Palo Alto will be strongest on Saturday, with gusts of 24 mph possible, in addition to south-southeast wind of 10 to 18 mph, the weather service is estimating.

Winds of 22 mph are forecast for San Francisco and 41 mph in Half Moon Bay.

The storm will also bring warmer weather with it. Palo Alto’s highs are expected to be in the high 60s.

On Sunday in Palo Alto, the rain will lighten and become variable, although thunderstorms are possible after 10 a.m., the weather service predicts. Some of the storms could produce small hail.

Two more rainstorms are likely next week.
