The No. 6 Stanford men’s water polo team will face Penn St.-Behrend and No. 1 USC on Friday in the opening round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.

The Cardinal, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will face the fifth-seeded Lions in the tournament’s opening game at 10 a.m. PT. Stanford will later face top-seeded USC at 3 p.m.

Stanford has won the MPSF Championships five times since 1992, most recently capturing the title in 2014 as the No. 2 seed with a 9-8 victory over Long Beach State.

The Cardinal also won the MPSF crown in 1994, 1998, 2001 and 2004. Stanford has also turned in three runner-up finishes at the event (2005, 2010, 2013), one third-place effort (2008) and finished fourth five times. Last season, Stanford placed fifth in the MPSF Tournament.

Sophomore Blake Parrish leads the Cardinal offensively with 43 goals on the year.

Junior Oliver Lewis has tallied 140 saves on the year, and is averaging 10.1 saves per game overall.

Friday will be Stanford’s first meeting with Penn State Behrend this season. The Cardinal has faced USC, UCLA and Cal at least once on the year already. In its most recent contest, Stanford dropped an 11-10 decision to the Golden Bears in Berkeley last weekend.

The championship game of the MPSF Tournament will take place on Sunday 1 p.m., following the third-place contest at 11 a.m.
