The fifth-ranked Stanford men’s water polo team wrapped up its four-game competition in the Mountain Pacific Invitational with an 8-6 victory over No. 7 Long Beach State Sunday at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Sophomore Harrison Enright guided the Cardinal with three goals against the 49ers, as Stanford improved to 8-2 on the season.

Enright broke a 3-3 tie with a goal in the final minutes of the first half. Stanford never looked back from there.

Enright added two more scores, while senior Adam Warmoth and freshman Bennett Williams each scored a second-half goal as the Cardinal completed the four-game tournament with a 3-1 mark.

Junior Oliver Lewis played the entire match in goal, making three saves.

Stanford will be back in action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against host Santa Clara.

Field hockey

Fran Tew scored the tying goal, Sarah Helgeson netted the go-ahead goal and Caroline Beaudoin added the insurance goal as No. 18 Stanford downed Yale, 3-1, on Sunday in nonconference action.

The Cardinal (4-4) has won three straight heading into its America East opener Friday at UC Davis.

Sailing

Stanford finished ninth out of 18 at the season-opening St. Mary’s Fall Interconference Regatta in Maryland on Sunday.

The Cardinal coed team got off to a rough start but then sailed well the rest of the way, earning three second-place finishes, a third and a fourth over 28 total races, with a total of 16 finishes of ninth or better.
