It might be a little tough for fans of the Stanford water polo club boys 14U teams to catch both teams in action on Monday even though they will be playing at different times.

There’s a good reason to want to see both teams play: both reached the national semifinal round of the USA Junior National Olympics tournament in the championship division.

The Stanford 16U A team also reached the semifinal in the top division, while the Stanford B 18U team will meet Bakersfield at noon at West Valley College in the classic semifinal round.

At the 14 level, the A team remains undefeated at 4-0 following two close victories on Sunday. They beat Rose Bowl Red A, 8-7, and followed that with a 7-5 victory over the SC Tritions Red A. Stanford meets Vanguard Blue A at noon at Bellarmine Prep in San Jose for the chance to reach the national championship.

The 14 B team finished group play with a 3-1 mark, beating the Miami Riptides, 11-1, and Greenwich White B, 7-4, on Sunday. They’ll meet Vanguard Silver B at Aragon High in San Mateo at 11 a.m.

The Stanford 16U A team also remains unbeaten at 4-0, outscoring its opponents by a 62-12 margin in that stretch. The 16s downed Shaq A, 12-6, and CC United Black A, 14-5, on Sunday and will meet Pride A at 11 a.m. at Stanford, with a national championship berth at stake.

The Stanford 16U B squad fell twice, 6-2 to Newport Beach A and 6-5 to Foothill Red A, and will meet OCWPC Blue A in a classification contest at Menlo-Atheron at noon. The B team will finish somewhere between 13th and 20th place.

Stanford’s 16U C team finished 3-1 in group play and will be playing Monday at 8 a.m. against CDM Blue A at San Lorenzo Valley with a chance to finish fifth. The team is coached by Palo Alto’s Aaron Johnson and features M-A junior Andy Maxwell, Menlo School junior Gary Marston, and Maxwell Patterson, an All-American at the 14U level last year.

In the 18U Classic division, the Stanford B team lost its first game and then won four straight, including beating Boerne, 6-5, and Sac Polo, 11-7, on Sunday.

Team members include recent Sacred Heart Prep grad Jack Hocker, Palo Alto senior Andrew Jozefov, Gunn senior Patrick Zhao, M-A junior Nik Caryotakis and Menlo School sophomore Sam Untrecht.

The Stanford 16U D team will be playing for a chance at fifth place in the Invitational division, taking on Viper Pigeon Northwest at Sacred Heart Prep at 10 a.m. The team is coached by Trevor Gladych, who competed at Villanova and Loyola Marymont.

The Stanford 18U A team meets CDM Blue A at 1 p.m. at Gunn. Stanford will finish somewhere between 13 and 20.
