Menlo School sophomore Sam Untrecht and Aptos freshman Gabe Discipulo, both members of the U14 Stanford Water Polo Club’s national championship team almost two years ago, were part of Team USA Cadet National Team that produced an 8-7 victory over Dubrovnik on Thursday in the opening of the Kids Final in Budapest, Hungary.

The Americans are set to play Szeged on Friday, with elimination play to follow.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Women’s Senior National Team opened play at the Kunshan Cup in China with a 3-1 record over its first four games. The latest victory came Thursday in a 12-2 decision over Club Shanghai on Thursday.

The American women play host China on Friday ahead of Saturday’s final. Team USA also beat Brazil and Canada, while losing to Australia, 5-4, for the second time in five days.

The U.S. travels to Shanghai to open the FINA World League Super Final on Tuesday against Brazil.

Stanford senior Maggie Steffens scored five times in the opening Kunshan Cup victory over the Brazilians, while Cardinal grad Kiley Neushul added four goals and future Stanford freshman Mackenzie Fischer had three.

Stanford grad Melissa Seidemann also scored for the Americans, who are 20-2 on the year.

The U.S. Men’s National Team (7-1) is set to play a series of exhibition games in Bucharest, Romania beginning Friday against Montenegro.
