A Palo Alto man allegedly threatened his apartment building manager with a knife and fired a pellet gun at construction workers on Friday afternoon, April 1, according to police.
Wesley Alexander Ramsey, 25, allegedly became angry about noise from construction at the apartment complex where he lives, Palo Alto Place, at 565 Arastradero Road. He allegedly entered the manager’s office and complained, Sgt. Scott Savage said.
The police department further elaborated in a statement on Monday, April 4.
The apartment manager, a man in his 30s, told police that Ramsey produced what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun and a knife from his pockets, and pointed both of them at him. Ramsey allegedly told the manager he was going to shoot someone and left. The manager immediately called police at 12:57 p.m.
Police located four construction workers in the area. Two of them, both men in their 40s, reported that Ramsey had allegedly approached them and brandished what appeared to be a black handgun.
Two others, a man in his 30s and a man in his 20s, were both working on scaffolding when they heard the sounds of something striking plastic sheeting around them. They did not know what it was, they told police. A review of video surveillance footage showed that Ramsey had pointed the weapon at the two men on the scaffolding and fired multiple pellets at them. Neither man was struck.
Officers recovered a black pellet gun from Ramsey’s apartment. The weapon was a realistic-looking replica of a semi-automatic pistol, according to police. Police also located an 8-inch knife with a 4-inch blade near where Ramsey had been spotted at the time he allegedly fired at the construction workers.
Police booked Ramsey into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats (both felonies) and brandishing (a misdemeanor).
