Rosco Allen, a first team All-Pac-12 selection and National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District honoree, has declared himself eligible for the 2016 NBA Draft. Allen will not sign with an agent, leaving the option open to return for his final year of eligibility with Stanford for the 2016-17 season.
Allen led Stanford in scoring (15.6 ppg) and minutes (34.1 mpg) during his third season of competition with the Cardinal. He ranked fifth in the Pac-12 Conference in scoring (16.8 ppg) during league action, and ninth overall.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NBA,” Rosco Allen said. “The Stanford coaches, teammates, and personnel have afforded me the opportunity to pursue this dream. The new NCAA rules give me a chance to be evaluated by the best minds in basketball, and to compete against great talents. I have discussed this decision with my family, my coaches, and my teammates, and they completely support me.”
The versatile small forward also competed as a shooting guard and power forward for the Cardinal this past season. He finished 13th in the conference in rebounding, averaging 6.5 rpg.
He ranked ninth in the Pac-12 in three-point field goals (1.9 per game). The forward recorded a three-pointer in 23 consecutive games, before having his streak come to an end in the regular-season finale at Arizona (March 5). He averaged 17.1 ppg over his final eight contests of the season. Allen averaged 12.0 points in the second half alone, over his final six games.
Allen posted three double-doubles this past season, against California, Green Bay and Sacramento State. He registered seven 20-point games this past season, including a career-high 25 each against No. 11 Oregon, Colorado and Arkansas. In the come-from-behind victory over the Razorbacks on Nov. 27, Allen posted 11 of his 25 points in the final 4:27. He scored 24 points, including the game-winning basket with 3.2 seconds remaining, to lift the Cardinal to the victory over Arizona State at home.
Allen has played in 97 career games with 60 career starts for the Cardinal. He was limited to just one game due to injury as a sophomore during the 2013-14 season. Allen has scored 811 career points, with an 8.4 ppg career scoring average.
