Erica McCall scored 18 points and had eight rebounds and the No. 11 Stanford women’s basketball team beat visiting Chattanooga, 73-30, in a nonconference game Monday night.
The Cardinal (10-2) opens Pac-12 Conference play at Arizona on Saturday afternoon. Stanford also visits No. 17 Arizona State next Monday night.
Lili Thompson had 11 and Karlie Samuelson added 10 for the Cardinal, which won its fourth straight and seven of eight overall.
Kaylee Johnson made all four of her shots and is 16 of 19 (.842) over her past four games after shooting .222 through eight games. She also added six rebounds.
Stanford’s defense limited the Mocs, who fell to 0-4 against the Top 25, to a shooting percentage of 21.1. The Cardinal has held its past four opponents to a combined 22.8 percent (57-of-250) from the field.
Stanford entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in opponents’ field-goal percentage.
The Cardinal also blocked eight shots, with McCall getting half of them. Stanford came into the contest averaging 6.2 blocks a game, seventh in the nation. Chattanooga, at 6.0, ranked 10th but had only one against Stanford.
Chattanooga opened the second half missing 19 of its first 21 shots and went 11 minutes without scoring a field goal at one point.
The Cardinal shot under 29 percent in the third quarter, missing 10 of 14 shots, including all four 3-point attempts. Stanford, which also turned the ball over five times, still managed to add to its lead, taking a 51-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
Stanford scored the first seven points of the contest and raced to a 15-2 advantage with 3:48 remaining to play in the first quarter.
The Cardinal led by as many as 23 points in the second quarter. Kaylee Johnson grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up at the buzzer to help Stanford take a 40-18 edge into halftime.
