Menlo was looking to get the bad taste out of its mouth left by a Thursday evening loss and did just that with a thrilling, 75-71, victory over visiting Johnson & Wales (Colo.) on Saturday night.

The Oaks (6-6) put together a tremendous team effort that included slowing down a high-powered Wildcat offense and also got a pair of remarkable individual performances from Rosendo AmayaWood and Mikey Eggleton.

AmayaWood had his best performance to date and notched another double-double in the process, scoring 13 points and pulling down 15 boards, five of which came on the offensive glass. He also tallied four assists, a game high.

Mikey Eggleton finished as the team’s leading scorer with 16 points, a number of which came in critical junctures of the game including the go-ahead jumper with under one minute remaining which paved the way for the win.

Unsurprisingly, that big time jumper was set up by an AmayaWood assist and made it 72-71 with 23 second remaining.

From that point, Menlo went 3-of-4 from the free Throw line with Ben Graham hitting a pair and AmayaWood adding one to salt the game away.

Another key effort came from senior big man Dylan Severson who scored six points but came up with a number of critical stops on the defensive end including one with 11 seconds remaining.

A big second and third quarter from Cal State East Bay proved pivotal in a one sided 84-39 loss for the Oaks on Saturday evening inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

During the middle portion of the game the Oaks found themselves outscored 53-8 and were never able to fully recover despite putting together their best offensive quarter of the game in the fourth.

Vanessa D’Amico was the lone Menlo scorer in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting. Jacki Bateman was the next highest scorer with six points.

Menlo finished 14-of-51 from the field (27.5%) and 4-of-21 from three point range (19%). CSU East Bay was 32-of-60 (53.3%) and 11-of-25 (44%) from range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
