Issac Miselewicz and Luis Nunez each scored in the second half and the Menlo College men’s soccer team won its third straight, beating host Simpson, 2-0, in a nonconference match Friday.

The Oaks (4-1) host Providence Christian on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

It seemed like just a matter of time before Menlo would break through after out-shooting the Red Hawks, 9-0, in the first half and taking seven corner kicks to Simpson’s one.

Miselewicz scored his second goal of the season, off an assist from junior Ryan Onizuka, five minutes into the second half and Nunez added a goal, his third, in the 73rd minute. Freshman Gera Jimenez recorded the assist for his first collegiate point.

“It was a very professional performance from the men,” Menlo coach Eric Bucchere said. “It’s always a challenging road trip to Redding, and the men were focused and got the details right which added up to a very solid victory away from home.”

Menlo earned its first win of the year, beating visiting Corban University, 2-0, at Sacred Heart Prep on Friday.

The Oaks (1-1-2) got two goals in the first half within 13 minutes of each other to take the lead, and the defense took over from there.

The first goal of the game came in the 32nd minute when Jelissa Blanco was battling for position inside the box and was fouled by the Corban defender to set up a penalty kick. Blanco did not squander the opportunity, clinically beating the keeper for the first goal of the game and her first goal of the young season.

Menlo’s insurance goal came just minutes before the end of the first half and it was set up by senior Raquel DeJesus, who took a corner kick and sent in a cross that was deflected back to her. DeJesus dribbled to an opening and ripped a cross with her left foot to an open Cheyenne Frias, who perfectly deflected it into the back of the net for her first career goal at Menlo.

It was all the Menlo defense from that point forward as the back line and keeper Kaylin Swart handled a barrage of second half shots.
