Sacred Heart Prep senior midfielder Tierna Davidson of Menlo Park is among the 31 members of the United States Under-20 women’s national soccer team at the National Training Center at StubHub Center in Carson through Sunday.
The roster is made up entirely of pre-college youth club players, with 12 born in 1997, 13 born in 1998, four players born in 1999 and two in 2000.
U.S. coach Michelle French will use the camp to continue to deepen the player pool and look at players in various age groups compete against each other as the team focuses on qualifying for the 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup that will be held in Papau New Guinea.
“We have a tremendous opportunity to bring together some of the younger talent that has been identified over the past few months,” said French. “With the depth of our U-20 pool, coupled with the emergence of players from our U-17, U-18, and U-19 National Team programs, I’m confident the camp will feature a highly competitive environment with the naming of the World Cup qualifying roster being just a few months away.”
The age cut-off for this group is players born on or after Jan. 1, 1996. The CONCACAF qualifying tournament is scheduled for the end of 2015 in Honduras.
Davidson played with the U.S. Under-18 team that lost to Mexico’s Under-20 team earlier in August. She also helped Sacred Heart Prep win the Central Coast Section Division III title last winter and finish 19-2-1, tying for most victories in program history.
