Palo Alto residents and businesses could hear loud, pounding noise as construction crews use pile-driving equipment for the San Francisquito Creek Bridge replacement project, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
The noise is expected to begin on Monday, Aug. 17 through Aug. 31, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Bayshore Road Bridge.
Flaggers will be present on West Bayshore to direct vehicles and equipment. In addition to the pile-driving equipment noise, residents might notice mandatory vehicle backup alarms, Caltrans noted in a press release. The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions or work sequences.
Demolition of the West Bayshore Road Bridge, which crosses the creek, started Aug. 4 and was completed on Aug. 7. Crews removed the sound walls, which will be replaced within the next four months. Preparation work for the pile driving is taking place this week through Friday, Aug. 14.
The $18 million bridge replacement project is expected to be completed in 2017.
