A preview of Palo Alto government meetings for the week of July 13.
CITY COUNCIL … The council has no meetings scheduled this week.
BOARD OF EDUCATION … The school board will convene special meeting to take action on the grant award agreement and lease amendment for the Palo Alto High School athletic center project. The meeting will begin at noon on Monday, July 13, in Room B at school district headquarters, 25 Churchill Ave. Read the agenda here.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD … The board will discuss a proposal from David Solnick on behalf of Sageleaf Forest LLC to demolish an existing office building at 430 Forest Ave. and construct two new residential buildings: a two-story building with two townhomes and a three-story building with 10 apartments and a penthouse. The board will also consider a request by Stanford University for façade changes, signage and interior improvements at Anthropologie at Stanford Shopping Center at 180 El Camino Real; and an exception for signage proposed by Stanford for the Hoover Medical Campus at 213 Quarry Road. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave.
LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMISSION … The commission plans to discuss the Library Department budget for Fiscal Year 2016 and the attendance of commissioners McDougall and Moss at the 2015 American Library Association annual meeting. The commission will also consider whether to conduct future commission meetings at city libraries. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave. Read the agenda here.
What is being proposed to replace Anthropoligie?
I hope that some of the library budget is designed to improve the parking flow at Mitchell Park with 5 minute spots and getting rid of the carpool spots (if they are for families, then why not call them that?). Also we need our drive thru book drops back.
Fix the parking lots at Mitchell and Rinconada libraries.
Bring back the drive-up book drops.
More carpool and handicapped parking at Mitchell Park Library, along with at least one book drop that can be used after closing time.
And please do something about the sound reverberations…. People can’t hear themselves think!

-children’s areas open to the general open space. Brilliant.
A hugely expensive library with lots of empty shelves.

A hugely expensive library without appropriate parking.
Expensive libraries that close early, when the sun is still shining.
But it was only a year late, so what’s the problem. Just ask for a budget increase.
