Winner of the Grand Jury Prize (Dramatic) and the Audience Award for U.S. Drama at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” marks a breakthrough for director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (“American Horror Story”) and stars Thomas Mann (“Project X”), Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”), and RJ Cyler, who makes his feature-film debut. Novelist Jesse Andrews adapted his own novel about a friendship triangle forged and complicated by a cancer diagnosis and the social currents of high school. During their recent San Francisco visit, director and cast sat down for exclusive interviews with Palo Alto Weekly film critic Peter Canavese.
