For the 35th consecutive season, Stanford finished in the top-10 of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The Cardinal walked away Saturday from Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium with 209 points for sixth place to end the three-day event.
“Our great team effort throughout the week was really personified with all three evening-ending relays,” Stanford coach Ted Knapp said. “We had great senior leadership and contributions, and it will take time to replace that on both the swimming and diving ends.”
The amazing collegiate career of Kristian Ipsen came to a close when the All-American diver took ninth with 421.95 points in the consolation final of the platform event.
The 400-yard freestyle relay foursome continued the tremendous efforts exhibited throughout the meet in the relays. Sam Perry, David Nolan, Tom Kremer and Thomas Stephens sprinted through in 2:49.39 for a time that stood for fifth.
Earlier, Nolan turned in a bronze-worthy 1:39.59 in the 200-yard backstroke to kickoff his final evening as a member of the Cardinal squad.
Kremer finished outside of a bid to the evening session by going 1:42.90 for 18th in the 200-yard butterfly.
Danny Thomson went through the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:03.44 for 28th. Liam Egan tapped in at 15:09.71 for 31st.
Perry went 43.01 for 24th in the 100-yard freestyle and Curtis Ogren (1:56.97) managed a 36th-place effort in the 200-yard breaststroke.
