Stanford will have some new opponents on its future football schedules after it announced Wednesday a pair of football series with Vanderbilt and Texas Christian.

The Cardinal and Vanderbilt have never played, but will meet four times between 2021 and 2027: at Vanderbilt on Sept. 18, 2021, and Sept. 6, 2025; at Stanford on Sept. 7, 2024, and Sept. 11, 2027.

The home-and-home series with TCU will be played at Stanford on Aug. 31, 2024, and in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sept. 4, 2027.

The Cardinal has played seven games against current Southeastern Conference programs, most recently at the 1992 Pigskin Classic in Anaheim, against Texas A&M (then of the Southwest Conference), marking the return of head coach Bill Walsh to Stanford.

However, Stanford has not played an SEC team in earnest since beating LSU in the 1977 Sun Bowl, 24-14, or in the regular season since a 16-0 victory in 1965 at Tulane, then in its final season in the conference.

The Cardinal has never played host to an SEC opponent at Stanford Stadium.

The pairing with TCU follows the programs’ home-and-home series contested in 2007 and 2008, the latter of which was the Cardinal’s most recent regular-season affair against a Big 12 Conference foe. Stanford’s last matchup with a Big 12 program came against Oklahoma State in the 2012 Fiesta Bowl. In 14 games against Big 12 opponents, Stanford has won five.

Stanford finished the 2014 season with a 45-21 victory over Maryland in the Foster Farms Bowl, and posted an 8-5 record while playing in its school-record sixth consecutive bowl game. Stanford is 54-13 since 2010, and one of five Power 5 schools with 11 or more wins in four of the last five seasons.

Stanford’s 2015 season begins Sept. 5 at Northwestern, with its home opener slated for Sept. 12 against University of Central Florida at Stanford Stadium.
