Stanford women’s gymnast Elizabeth Price was named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.

Price claimed individual victories in both of her events at San Jose State, scoring 9.925 on bars and 9.850 on vault. Both of her performances were crucial to Stanford’s success with at least one gymnast falling in the lineup before her.

Price’s two meet-best routines helped Stanford claim its first team victory of the 2015 season and of her collegiate career. She has claimed individual victories in all three of the events she’s competed in this season after winning vault with a 9.950 in the season-opening NorCal Classic on Jan. 4.

Sophomore pitcher Cal Quantrill has been named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-America Second Team, three weeks after being selected to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Third Team. The reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2014.

Quantrill made his mark as one of the top freshmen in the country during Stanford’s improbable Super Regional run last season. The Port Hope, Ontario native was named to the Bloomington Regional All-Tournament Team after earning the win in the clinching victory over Indiana, then threw 7.0 innings in a no-decision against eventual national champion Vanderbilt during the Super Regional.

The management science and engineering major led the Cardinal in innings (110.2) and strikeouts (98) after becoming the first Stanford freshman to start opening day since Mike Mussina in 1988.

Only five of the 29 other Louisville Slugger All-America starting pitchers struck out more than Quantrill did in 2014 and four of those hurlers are on the first team.

Stanford opens its season Feb. 13 against visiting Indiana at 3 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
