The Stanford women’s golf team finished its fall season Tuesday at the Pac-12 Preview with a third-place finish at 7-over, its fourth top-10 finish in as many events this fall.
Stanford (291-303-289) placed two in the top-10 among individuals and all five Cardinal performers finished in the top-50 at the event contested at the par-73 Nanea Golf Club in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
Washington (11 under) won the tournament with UCLA (even par) taking second among the 12-team field.
“We had a really solid performance this week with everyone contributing,” Stanford assistant coach Lauren Dobashi said. “With four Pac-12 Conference programs ranked in the top-10 nationally, finishing in the top five is quite an accomplishment. Lauren Kim once again led our team and had a great tournament.”
Kim (74-73-70) moved up eight spots in her final round to pace the Cardinal with a fourth-place finish at 2-under.
She had five birdies on the back nine of her first round, four more in her second round and used four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 sixth during her final 18.
Kim was joined in the top-10 by Mariah Stackhouse (69-77-74). Stackhouse was 4-under to begin the tournament, but stumbled by going without a birdie in her penultimate round.
Stackhouse went 1-over in her final stretch to share eighth with three other players.
Casey Danielson tied for 12th with rounds of 74-75-72, rolling in 11 birdies during the 36 holes with six coming in her final round.
Shannon Aubert (74-78-76) tied for 29th at 9-over and Quirine Eijkenboom (+14) saved her best round for Tuesday with four birdies during an even-par 73.
Stanford will have a few months off before playing host to the Peg Barnard Invitational (Feb. 14-15) at Stanford Golf Course.
Men’s golf
Jeffrey Swegle had five birdies while carding a 3-under 68 to lead Stanford on Tuesday during the Gifford Collegiate Championship contested at the par-71 CordeValle Country Club in San Martin.
Competing as an individual, Swegle is 17th overall at even-par through 36 holes as the Cardinal is fourth among the 10-team field.
The three-day, 54-hole event wraps up Wednesday.
UCLA’s Jake Knapp (-6) leads all individuals as USC paces the pack at 12-under.
Viraat Badhwar’s even-par outing kept him in the top 10, and the Stanford sophomore is tied for sixth overall. Badhwar had five birdies with as many bogeys.
Stanford’s Maverick McNealy (t-41st) and David Boote (t-13th) each signed off at 2-over on the day. Boote is 1-under overall, one shot behind Badhwar.
Franklin Huang (73-71) is tied for 26th. Stanford freshman Bradley Knox from Sacred Heart Prep (t-49th) was nine shots better than his opening round with a 70, and Dominick Francks (73-76) stands tied for 49th.
