James Threw and Daniel Comstock of Menlo College have been named to the 2014 All-NAIA West Group baseball team after leading the Oaks to their fifth straight winning season.
Threw, a senior shortstop, earned all-conference honors for the first time. He started 54 games, batting .291 with 11 doubles, four home runs and a team-leading four triples. Threw also drove in 31 runs, scored 26 and stole five bases as the team’s everyday shortstop.
Threw’s four seasons with the Oaks have netted him a number of single-season and all-time Menlo records including: third in career stolen bases (23), fourth in games played (160), eighth in career hits (124), and tied for second in triples in a single season (4).
Comstock, a sophomore catcher, is one of just four players to repeat on the All-NAIA West Group Team and broke a number of school records in the process.
He was the only Menlo player to start all 57 of the team’s games this season and led the team with a .350 batting average, 24 doubles and 39 RBI. He also scored 29 runs, ripped seven home runs and tripled twice for a team-leading .587 slugging percentage and .434 on-base percentage.
Comstock’s 24 doubles places him first all-time on the Menlo single-season doubles list, overtaking last season’s NAIA West Player of the Year Jimmy Bosco for the honor. Additionally, Comstock has inked himself in the record books in multiple categories including: sixth in career hits (132), fifth in career doubles (35), second in single-season hits (72), and tied for sixth in walks in a single season (28).

Menlo sophomore catcher/pitcher Nate Harris and senior outfielder Mickey Phelps have been selected to the District 4 Capital One Academic All-District first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Capital One Academic All-District Team recognizes outstanding student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
A finance major, Phelps holds a 3.38 cumulative GPA and has been a four-year standout in the outfield for the Oaks during their winningest stretch in program history. Appearing in over 173 games for the Oaks in his career.
Harris has proven himself as a dual-threat as both a pitcher and catcher this season. An accounting major with a 3.53 GPA, Harris earns a spot on the All-District team for the first time.
Softball
Junior outfielder Nicole Larson was selected to the District 4 Capital One Academic All-District first team, as announced by CoSIDA last week.
An accounting major with a team-leading 3.96 GPA, Larson has been an integral member of the softball team since her freshman season in 2012. Appearing in 115 career games, Larson posted her best year to date, appearing in center field in each of the teams 30 games as a junior. She led the team in nearly every major offensive category including: batting average (.383), runs (25), RBI (25), hits (36), doubles (9), triples (5) and slugging percentage (.681).
Proving her versatility, the junior center fielder did not make an error in 55 chances to post a 1.000 fielding percentage.
