Palo Alto High grad Davante Adams lost a school record, but he and his Fresno State football team remained unbeaten with a 41-23 victory over visiting Nevada on Saturday night. The 16th-ranked Bulldogs improved to 8-0 for the fifth time in school history.
Josh Harper’s 17 receptions set a new school record, eclipsing the mark of 16 by Adams from earlier this season. Harper had 253 receiving yards on the night.
Adams, who entered the game on a ridiculous streak having caught 36 passes for 493 yards and nine touchdowns in the three previous games, caught a modest eight passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. He now has 14 touchdown catches in eight games this season, matching his total from last season. He is one behind the single-season school record.
Women’s volleyball
Palo Alto grad Megan Coleman had 29 digs and Menlo-Atherton grad Regina Mullen had 17 kills and six digs for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a 3-1 win over Redlands on Saturday. CMS improved to 11-5 in league and 23-5 overall.
In the Pac-12 Conference, Palo Alto grad Melanie Wade had a total of nine kills and six block assists as the Huskies (11-1, 19-1) remained atop the conference following wins over Colorado and Utah last week.
At Wheaton College in Illinois, Paly grad Shelby Knowles produced 24 kills and 29 digs in a split of two matches as Wheaton moved to 24-10 overall.
At Connecticut College, Paly grad Caroline Martin and Menlo School grad Anelise Hohl helped the Camels (15-11) defeat both Brandeis University and Endicott College last weekend. Martin buried 12 kills to go with six digs in the Endicott win while Hohl checked in with nine kills and zero errors on 16 hits, registering an impressive .562 hitting percentage. Against Brandeis, Hohl had seven kills and three solo blocks while Martin finished with four kills and nine digs.
Men’s water polo
Coming off its regular season Southern Division-East title, the Princeton men’s water polo team — featuring five local players — has earned the No. 1 seed at this weekend’s Southern Division Championship at Navy from Nov. 8-10 in Annapolis, Md.
Goalies Alex Gow (Menlo-Atherton) and Ben Dearborn (Sacred Heart Prep) are joined by Bret Hinrichs (SHP), Kevin Zhang (Gunn) and Brett Rafter (Portola Valley).
Gow had 20 saves total in wins over Fordham (11-6) and Iona (13-9) last week. Hinrichs had a goal against Fordham.
The Tigers enter the tournament with a 17-4 overall, 7-1 Southern record. Seeding was based on the accumulated votes of the division’s 12 head coaches, with the Tigers receiving 11 first-place votes.
As the top seed, Princeton earned a first-round bye and will open Southerns on Saturday at 9 a.m. versus the winner of the Gannon – Notre Dame College matchup. The semifinals will be played later that evening, followed by the championship game Sunday at 3:40 p.m.
Princeton has won seven Southern titles, last capturing the divisional crown in 2011.
