A crash involving a motorcycle and a truck on state Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard) just south of Highway 92 in San Mateo County blocked the roadway in both directions for about an hour Sunday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The motorcyclist suffered major head injuries in the collision, which occurred at about 2:15 p.m., and was airlifted to Stanford Hospital, CHP Officer James Evans said.

There were no other reported injuries. The roadway was blocked in both directions until 3:15 p.m.

The crash is under investigation by the CHP.

  1. I don’t know if it was this crash or another one on Skyline, but a friend of mine came upon a motorcycle crash this weekend, and the early-20’s startup engineer driver had been listening to music on his iPhone and driving *way* too fast before launching off a turn and into a redwood tree that didn’t budge. If others hadn’t see him launch, he would’ve likely died alone and unseen.

  2. The crash discussed in this article happened outside the northern parking lot for the Purisima Creek hiking trails. It looked horrific. A large, older pickup appeared to have been turning into the parking lot when the motorcycle was passing the entrance (I didn’t see it happen, so I don’t know for sure). The motorcycle was in at least three large, separate pieces and the front of the truck was well bashed-in. There must have been a lot of force involved. Perhaps it was a head-on and just coincidence that it happened right outside the lot entrance – maybe the truck wasn’t actually turning.

I didn’t see the rider, because he was thrown into a ditch, but emergency vehicles were arriving on the scene. I hope the rider survives!
