A man was struck and killed by a southbound train in Mountain View Wednesday morning, June 6, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman.

The man was hit around 9:45 a.m. by Caltrain No. 332 near the San Antonio station, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said. The Baby Bullet express train was not scheduled to stop at the station, she said.

There were 207 passengers on the train.

The San Mateo County Transit Police is handling the investigation. The cause of the fatality has yet to be determined, Bartholomew said. Following a complete investigation, the Santa Clara County Coroner will make the official determination of the cause of death.

As of 11:30 a.m., trains were still single-tracking through the area and there were delays of up to 45 minutes.

There have been nine fatalities on the Caltrain right of way this year. Last year there were 16.

  1. To the families of this man, Sorry for your lost. My prayers go to the families of this man who probably felt like no one cared. They say that the incident happened near San Antonio, but I bet that it happened in Palo Alto. I think they want to say near San Antonio so it does not sound like Palo Alto is becoming a place to die.

  2. I actually saw accident scene mins after it happen. It was at the san antonio platform.police were just covering the man. I am sorry he took his life and for his family

  3. I wish these suicides would stop. It is so sad. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I do believe San Antonio station is in Mountain View.

  4. First of all, I am so sorry to hear this. I am sorry for his family and friends.

Still, I believe the police are trying to make Palo Altans think they are safer than they really are.

  5. I knew my dear sweet Josh. We both struggled with the same problems. He was kind, wacky, wild and unfortuneatly terribly troubled. I love you Josh, you will be missed!! RIP love
