Senior Josh Owens walked away with four awards, including the Hank Luisetti Most Valuable Player honor, highlighting the Stanford men’s basketball annual awards banquet on Monday night in front of approximately 200 people inside the Arrillaga Family Sports Center.
Owens also claimed statistical award titles with team-high marks in rebounding (5.8 per game) and field-goal percentage (57.1 percent).
Additionally, Owens shared the honor of team captain with fellow seniors Jarrett Mann, Jack Trotter and Andrew Zimmermann.
Mann was named the club’s Best Defensive Player, earning the award for the third consecutive season. Meanwhile, Zimmermann received the Roy Young Toughness award for the second time in his career after coming away with the same honor in 2010.
Sophomore Josh Huestis snagged the Most Improved Player award for the second straight year while redshirt junior Andy Brown captured the Most Inspirational Player honor.
Representative of the season’s overall success and depth, the entire team was recognized with the Howie Dallmar Coaches award.
Sophomore John Gage was acknowledged for attaining the team’s highest GPA (3.66), highlighting one of the most successful seasons for Stanford in the classroom as a program-record eight players were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team.
Four other statistical awards were handed out representing the following categories: scoring (freshman Chasson Randle – 13.8 ppg), three-point field goal percentage (Randle – 43.8 percent), free throw percentage (sophomore Aaron Bright – 79.1 percent) and assists (Bright – 136 assists, 3.7 per game).
Senior managers Anthony Clarke, Dominic Delfino and Brandon Jackson were also honored. Associate head coach Dick Davey, who is set to retire following a memorable coaching career, was also honored with a video tribute.
Baseball
Stanford’s Tuesday home baseball game with the University of the Pacific has been moved to Wednesday at 5 p.m.
A final determination for the game will be made by 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Stanford will continue to host Oregon this weekend with games at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
Tennis
Rain canceled Tuesday’s scheduled men’s tennis match between No. 11 Stanford and visiting USF.
A decision on whether or not the match will be rescheduled will come at a later date.
The Cardinal (14-5, 4-0 Pac-12), which is coming off a 7-0 win over No. 22 Washington, faces UCLA (April 13 at 1:30 p.m.) and USC (April 14 at 1 p.m.) this weekend in Southern California.
Co-ed tennis
As one of the top 64 co-ed intramural and sport club tennis teams representing colleges and universities across the country, Stanford has qualified for the 2012 United States Tennis Association Tennis On Campus National Championship to be played this weekend in Cary, N.C.
Six schools will be making their debut at Nationals and the field also includes defending champion UCLA and five-time national champion Texas A&M (won titles in 2002 and 2004-2007). All participating Tennis On Campus teams have advanced through championship play.
