Stanford freshman diver Kristian Ipsen secured a second spot at the World Cup in February, finishing second in the 3-meter Monday at the Winter National Championships in Nashville due to his combined score of 1,516.55.

Ipsen finished .20 points behind Chris Colwill, who recorded a mark of 1,516.75 to win the gold medal.

Stanford grad Dwight Dumais finished ninth with a combined score of 1,271.85.

Ipsen scored 85 points or more in each of his final five dives, posting 9.5’s on his final dive, a reverse 1 ½ somersault and twist for 91.80 points.

Both Ipsen and Dumais made the finals with second and eighth place showings in the morning.

Ipsen secured a spot in the 3-meter synchro (with 3-time Olympian Troy Dumais) earlier at the event.
