Groupon, Inc., plans to dramatically expand its presence in Palo Alto in the coming months, when it takes over a Park Boulevard building it has recently leased.

The Chicago-based company, which specializes in “daily deal” coupons, already has an office in Palo Alto. It signed a lease on a Sherman Avenue building in December.

The newly leased building at 3101 Park Blvd. would be able to accommodate about 300 workers, said Julie Mossler, Groupon spokesperson. She said it’s part of the company’s effort to attract more tech-savvy employees to the company.

The Sherman Avenue building, which is just a short stroll from the Park Boulevard one, can accommodate about 200 employees, she said.

“We’ve undergone a huge recruiting effort in Palo Alto for development talent and general technology talent, and we’re basically outgrowing our space,” Mossler said.

The building is currently occupied by Danger, Inc., a subsidiary of Microsoft.

  1. If they were smart, they would wait until a Groupon offer for a break on real estate in Palo Alto came up before they expanded. They could save a lot of money that way.

  2. And to all the duck lovers out there, Groupon has already made assurances that no ducks or duck ponds will be affected by this expansion.
