President Barack Obama will visit Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto April 20, where he will host a “town hall” meeting that will be streamed live on the Internet.

Americans are invited to post questions for the president on the wall of the White House Facebook page or through the White House.

Facebook executives will select questions for Obama to answer during the event, the White House said.

“President Obama will connect with Americans across the country to discuss the tough choices we must all make in order to put our economy on a more responsible fiscal path, while still investing in areas like innovation that will help our economy grow and make America more competitive,” the White House said in announcing the event.

To watch, tune in to the White House Facebook page April 20 at 1:45 p.m., the announcement said.

Obama will appear with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, according to the announcement.

  1. Oh! get off the stumps ,….It is a great honor to have the President of the United States,..visit such a small township repeticiously. Maybe you should fly somewhere and see the world Palo Alto is just a spek on the planet and dot in country,.be grateful if he travels here more then the infrastucture can only get better. And,…… more of our American children can be inspired to become a leader of the world.

  2. PA PD should be able to solve the city deficit by writing parking tickets for all those cars that don’t have parking permits under the system that was implemented last year.

  3. Candidate Obama regaled “Joe The Plumber” with tales of “wealth redistribution”. Maybe now-President Obama can regale the future multi-millionaires at Facebook how he plans to redistribute the wealth that these young people are trying to build for themselves and their future families–telling them in no uncertain terms how “the poor deserve the results of your work more than you do!”

Back when now-President Obama was an Illinois State Senator, he claimed that: “Toppling Brutal Dictator a ‘Dumb War’”

    http://cnsnews.com/news/article/obama-2002-toppling-brutal-dictator-dumb

He can prove his mettle to these young, not-subject-to-the-draft Facebookers how, as President, he has been consistent to his word, and not put the Military in harm’s way to topple any “Brutal Dictators”.

And since the price of gas has doubled under now-President Obama:

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/watercooler/2011/mar/30/gas-prices-double-under-obama/

perhaps he will tell these young people: “you a’int seen nuttin’ yet!” Give me “four-more-years” and I’ll double gas prices again!”

Wonder if now-President, soon-to-be-candidate-again Obama will talk about any of these things?

  4. Does Only-The-Teleprompter-Knows-All’s post have anything to do with the topic of this thread–no not really. But you can always count on the mention of Obama’s name to bring out the “best” from the Limbaugh-Beck republican crazies/tea baggers/Al qeida supporters in the republican party. The above is a great example of that.

  5. Swell. Let’s not forget that politicians are supposedly in office to represent the public, we the people, in case some of you forgot. It seems as though people in this land have apparently forgotten as is evidenced by the rock star status that we lavish upon the servants of the public. Big Deal, Obama on Facebook. The future is unfolding right in front of our very eyes, and most people seem to be enamored by power and are motivated by a rather strange fascination to stand next to those in the public eye. Get over it. Wake up and smell the rise of fascism before it gobbles you up.

  6. > Does Only-The-Teleprompter-Knows-All’s post have anything to do
    > with the topic of this thread

The topic is that now-announced-candidate Barak Obama is coming to a local business that might well be useful to his re-election. So, what is he likely to talk about to these people? Will be be honest, or will he dissemble, or possibly lie to them knowing that many of these people were not even ten years old when he was a Senator in Illinois?

The post has everything to do with the topic of the article. My mom used to say to me: “there are none so blind as those who will not see” .. it was true then, and true now.

You seem to making quite the effort to defend your initial post. I rest my case.

  8. Teleprompter:

    1) Reagan used a teleprompter. So did the bushies. Get over it, unless you want to declare that dubya was a better speaker than President Obama. Please enlighten us on that score. Really love to hear your Beck spin on dubya’s ability to use basic english.

    2) Didn’t see you on the GOP 2012 debate thread(s). If you don’t recognize President Obama’s strength, too bad, a lot of conservatives do. The GOP chickenhawks that wish they could run against him respect his strength, so much so they have yet to announce their candidacy.

    – at this point in the 2008 cycle, all major candidates have announced
    – the Reagan Library had to cancel their scheduled debate for May 2nd, because the “candidates” are too chicken to actually announce. Maybe they’re all like Trump, Newt, Palin and Bachman – they just want the exposure to sell more books; they know full well that if they actually won the primary, they’d get slaughtered worse than McCain.

The GOP has the worst field of candiates in memory. Even McCain and Dole look better than these jokers.

Teleprompter: keep tossing your Beckian hate, or man up: tell us who you think can survive the the teabaggers in the primary AND beat President Obama in the general.

Man up: tell who us who you’ve got!

“there are none so blind as those who will not see”

    Bingo.

  9. > I rest my case

On what? This poster is well known for being argumentative .. attacking posters, but not the content of the posting. And has done so one more time.

What can anyone make out of “I rest my case”? .. other than seeing a frustrated person with nothing to say?

  10. “On what? This poster is well known for being argumentative”
Known by who? I though our free speech rights includes the right to be argumentative. Or is the new republican mantra that if you do not agree with the opinion of said republican you are called “argumentative”

“.. attacking posters, but not the content of the posting. “
I attacked the content of your post. It seems that these republicans who constantly bash obama are very thin-skinned. They have no problem raining down abuse on Obama and/or those that support him, but criticize their postings and they go ballistic, whining about being attacked. That is a page form the Limbaugh/Beck/Coulter book.
Funny how Only-The-Teleprompter-Knows-All complains about “attacks” but has no problem attacking anyone that disagrees with him.

“And has done so one more time.”
    Free speech is a problem.

“What can anyone make out of “I rest my case”? “
What is there to make out. I made a statement.

Only-The-Teleprompter-Knows-All, your initial post was one of the typical anti-Obama rants that we see all the time on this forum. You are free to post what you want. You seem, however unable to accept any criticism of your writing. Grow up and take criticism like a man.
“.. other than seeing a frustrated person with nothing to say?”
i had plenty to say in my initial post–you did not agree with it. That is fine with me. Sounds like you are the frustrated one–upset that people are questioning your initial posting.

  11. Teleprompter, you are not alone! Ridiculous visit – aimed at campaigning – very costly. Obama doing what Obama does best – talking. Unfortunately, this country needs far more than someone who can talk – we need someone who can lead – or at least knows what’s going on.

  12. Agree:

    Your solution?

Moan, groan, whine, complain, that’s all the beckian conservobot whacko have! No solutions!

And no candidates to beat PRESIDENT Obama.

Noted also that you did not rise to the challenge extended to Telly. Who’s your choice of the chickenhawks (all too afraid to announce in time) to debate at the Reagan library debate on May 2nd?

    Hilarious. Keep complaining.

  13. Extremely bad timing, April 20th is or was Adolph Hitler’s Birthday and as such is celebrated by the extreme right wing. It is also my birthday and had I been born one day later it would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday!!

  14. Re: attacking Obama for making campaign stops like that in PA.

Between January and November of 2002, President Bush made local visits (and in some cases, multiple visits) on behalf of at least 72 House, Senate and Gubernatorial candidates.
    http://www.bsos.umd.edu/gvpt/apworkshop/herrnson-morris.pdf

Presidents are, indeed, politicians. Is this news? It is part of their job to get (re)elected and to get others elected. And local governments get stuck with security costs. It is a bit silly to suggest this an issue with any particular president.

  15. I am sure Obama’s cars/SUVs will be full of people, unlike the mostly empty facebook buses that roar up & down Ca Ave all day long.

  16. I think Facebook, or Obama, or sometoby should have some gathering that College Terrace people could go to. I called Facebook, and guess what, they have no people to answer phones because, as their answering systems says, “We’re an internet company” so contact us via the internet. I left my phone number anyway, but, of course, I’m certainly not expecting a callback. It might have been nice to be in the audience there when Obama is doing the question thingee. I appreciate any tax dollars coming into Palo Alto from them, but other than that, get the heck out, eh? I don’t think CT people are going to gripe about the President coming nearby, but just what is the schedule? Will there be road closures? Is somebody going to tell us?

  17. I am imagining the outcry if a conservative, like Bachmann, Pence, Pawlenty or even a RINO like McCain were to be hosted by Facebook owner…

Facebook, Google, Tesla, Westly’s venture capital firm, and many other owners of similar companies are exhibiting the worst of crony capitalism, the kind of corporate-government marriage that we have seen in the past in other countries, the likes of which would get them tarred and feathered if they were in bed with any Republican, let alone a Conservative.

    Think about it.

  18. To Barron Park: The difference is the Bush was not “hosted” by a COMPANY, then that companay given massive “loans” ( which we all know by now need not be paid back) and tax breaks ( think..GE…who paid ZERO in taxes last year).

The powerful corruption that we are acting like the “see no evil” monkeys over is breathtaking, but even more so, scaring the crap out of me. Where are we heading?

  19. BTW Barron Park Dad: This isn’t election season for other candidates. This is gearing up for Obama’s re-election. He has never left the campaign trail…the only difference is that now he is going to try to convince us that he has “turned back” moderate..ha ha ha ha ha ….

Fool me once, shame on you,…fool me twice, shame on me. I didn’t vote for him because I didn’t believe he and his party would be good for our country. BUT, I actually believed him in his inauguration speech when he said that his Admin would “look at the numbers and change course if it isn’t working”. I thought “well, ok, fair enough, I can go along with that.”

All I have seen is a doubling down on the worst possible laws, policies, regulations and ideology for our economy and our security, and an erratic, unprincipled POTUS where we never know what he is going to do or say next; with the least transparent govt, most likely to override State and individual rights, and most likely to scare away our businesses and friends, while making us the laughingstock of our enemies.

No more. He has confirmed beyond my worst original fears from reading “Dreams”, and listening to him off-teleprompter.

But, good luck with that, the rest of you.

  20. All y’all haters:

Want to stop GE getting those tax breaks from our politicians?

Want to stop the most profitable industry in the HISTORY of the world from getting billions in subsidies? (oil)

Want to stop unions from contributing?

    Soros?

    Answer:

    Public Financing of elections.

If we don’t own the politicians, then some corporation, union, or rich guy (Koch or a limousine liberal) will.

Imagine if pols didn’t have to spend every waking minute fundraising, and then owe favors to those the raised money from.

Or they write tax code for GE and Exxon.
