Stanford Avenue in Palo Alto will be reduced to one lane today (Feb. 7) through Thursday (Feb. 10) due to sidewalk repairs. Stanford Avenue is a major route to Escondido Elementary School and the southern side of Stanford University.
Construction work will begin after Escondido School has started each day at 8:15 a.m. to minimize traffic impacts, according to a memo from Stanford University.
Signage indicating closure of the sidewalk will be placed at Escondido Road and Yale Avenue. School children who use the sidewalk to and from school will be directed to use the sidewalks along Olmsted Road instead.
To limit congestion on Stanford Avenue, the construction crew will work in one location at a time. Seven areas are scheduled for repair.
Traffic control will affect areas of a couple truck lengths of the avenue at a time. Workers will not be impacting an entire block at any one time. The trucks will take up the bike lane and part of one driving lane. The work will last until 6 p.m. daily. The demolition work is expected to be loud.
The repairs are part of an agreement between Stanford and the City of Palo Alto to help minimize traffic impacts from the Olmstead Homes faculty housing project. More information is available at olmstedhomes.stanford.edu/activity.
I’m not sure I understand how working in front of a school after it has started “minimize traffic impact” How about working on it when school isn’t in session (Christmas or Thanksgiving holidays, summer break?). Not to mention, do they really think construction equipment is quiet? I’m sure those kids will have to listen to this repair all day while in class. Whoever planned this repair job is a very poor thinker!
