Midnight Friday (Jan. 28) is the deadline for applications for the 2011 Business Environmental Awards program sponsored by Acterra, the Palo Alto-based environmental organization.
Acterra has honored more than 130 companies and organizations for their corporate environmentalist projects since the inception of its awards in 1990. The awards recognize sustainable business practices, innovative environmental efforts, or sustainable building construction.
This year a fourth award category has been added, honoring a specific project that demonstrates environmental leadership.
“The goal of these awards is to promote, encourage and foster corporate environmentalism, to provide an educational forum that will increase awareness of the corporate green movement, and to motivate companies to adopt sustainable business practices,” awards program Director Ariane Erickson said.
Past honorees awarded include Applied Materials, Inc., the City of San Jose, the Town of Portola Valley, Numi Organic Tea and University of California, Santa Cruz.
The awards will be announced in April and presented at a ceremony in June that includes videos profiling the organization’s green-business.
“The videos can educate companies far outside the Bay,” Erickson said.
