AT&T representatives will unveil plans on Tuesday, Jan. 11, for a proposed cell tower at St. Albert the Great Church at 1095 Channing Ave. in Palo Alto.
The 60-foot-high bell-tower-like structure, built by AT&T, would contain multiple antennas, according to AT&T. The tower would retain the church’s Spanish-style architecture.
The communications provider needs the tower to upgrade coverage and provide better wireless service, AT&T spokespersons have said. But some neighbors oppose the tower’s placement in the residential area and are concerned about potential health effects and damage to property values.
Local experts said studies of health problems related to cell towers are inconclusive, and more research should be done.
