Stanford men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins got right to the point in his latest signing coup.

Rock Island’s (Illinois) Chasson Randle (6-1, 170) committed to the Cardinal and signed a national letter of intent.

Randle announced his verbal commitment to Stanford in late October, when he learned he had been admitted to the school.

The point guard is the all-time leading scorer at Rock Island High and a two-time Class 3A All-State First Team selection.

“Chasson is a quality student-athlete who excels both athletically and academically,” Dawkins said. “I loved his talents on the basketball court from the first time I saw him and understood how much he could help us there.”

ESPN.com ranks Randle as the country’s ninth-best point guard and 54th-best player overall.

“The ability to play Division I basketball at a school such as Stanford is a great accomplishment for me and my family,” Randle said. “I experienced a great comfort level during my time on campus with the team and coaching staff. My goal is to come out, play hard and help the team by doing whatever is asked of me.”

Randle also won a gold medal with USA’s U17 team at the last World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

“This year’s recruiting class was smaller, and we really targeted Chasson believing he was a missing piece to last year’s larger recruiting class, and our team in general,” said Dawkins. “He is a dynamic guard and playmaker that can have an immediate impact on our team. I am really excited to coach him and help him grow as a player. He will certainly be a big part of our growth and success as a program going forward.”
