A police investigation is continuing after officers responding to the report on Saturday of gunshots eventually found a woman receiving medical aid at a nearby firehouse, a sergeant said.
East Palo Alto police Sgt. John Chalmers said officers were alerted to an incident on the 2300 block of Clarke Street at 12:26 p.m. on Saturday but were unable to find any victims, suspects or witnesses.
Shortly thereafter came a report of a woman with a gunshot wound who was driven to a Menlo Park fire station on University Avenue.
The 42-year-old San Mateo woman was in the passenger side of a Honda Civic and was suffering from a bullet wound in her leg. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.
Prior to her transport, investigating officers were unable to determine from the woman who it was who drove her to the fire station.
The victim “told police she did not know the identity of the driver that was driving the vehicle when she was shot, and then drove her to the fire station. The subject fled on foot from the vehicle prior to police arrival,” Chalmers reported in a departmental news release.
Detectives later collected three .45 caliber bullet casings in the driveway of Price’s Barber Shop at 2380 Clarke St.
