Menlo Park-based Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) has purchased an 183-acre Half Moon Bay property on the San Mateo County coast. The property includes ridges and wooded valleys and is four miles long between Lobitos and Tunitas creeks south of Half Moon Bay. It will be preserved as open space.

“If POST had not acquired it, two sprawling trophy homes could have been built on the flat areas along the ridge top,” POST President Audrey Rust said. “Any development would have been highly visible form neighboring ridgelines and would have impeded possible future hiking connections between the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the California Coastal Trail.”

The property was purchased for $2.25 million as part of POST’s “Saving the Endangered Coast” campaign. POST, a nonprofit organization, will now raise funds to cover the purchase cost.
