Person dies after being struck on Caltrain tracks in Redwood City

A person was struck and killed by a Caltrain on Monday night, Sept. 4, the agency said.

At approximately 8:54 p.m., southbound train number 268 fatally struck an individual when approaching Redwood City station, Caltrain said.

As of 9:50 p.m., emergency personnel were still on the scene and train service was stopped at the area.

There were approximately 166 passengers onboard at the time and seven bikes, Caltrain said, and all were moved to the platform area. No other injuries were reported.

"No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost. Caltrain reminds everyone to be safe around train tracks," Caltrain said in a statement.

The victim was identified Tuesday as Derrick Miley, a 62-year-old man. The coroner's office did not have information about his city of residence.

This is Caltrain's 10th fatality of the year.
