Local leaders and PG&E representatives are set to discuss the power outages that plagued East Palo Alto and surrounding areas in late February when a massive atmospheric river swept through northern California.

The storm knocked out power throughout East Palo Alto and neighboring communities, including Redwood City, from February 21-24.

East Palo Alto Mayor Lisa Gauthier will host a community forum on Thursday, March 16, from 6-7:30 p.m., where she will be joined by several community leaders to explore the causes of the outages and the steps taken to restore power.

The discussion will center on the communication of outage information during the affected period, as well as potential strategies for improvement. Officials will also address reimbursement options for affected residents and the process of accessing them.

PG&E Regional Vice President Aaron Johnson will be in attendance.

The local leaders scheduled to attend the forum are Assembly member Diane Papan, Sen. Josh Becker, D-San Mateo, San Mateo County Supervisor Warren Slocum and representatives from the San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management.

The forum will be held at the EPA Government Center, City Council Chamber, located at 2415 University Ave. on the first floor in East Palo Alto. Residents who prefer to attend remotely can join the forum via Zoom.

The invitation to attend the community forum on power outages comes after much of the Peninsula lost electricity Tuesday due to another atmospheric river that moved in on and knocked down power lines.
