Seniors Emma Symon and Leigh Doyas each recorded four kills in the third set and Los Altos made a statement, winning at home against Mountain View 25-16, 25-21, 25-19, in a SCVAL De Anza Division girls volleyball match Tuesday.
Los Altos (17-10, 6-3) extended its season-best winning streak to five matches and will travel to play at Los Gatos (16-4, 8-0) on Thursday night. The Wildcats swept Monta Vista.
Mountain View (20-3, 7-2) is at home Thursday against Palo Alto, and still has the best chance of catching Los Gatos despite losing to the Eagles.
Los Altos was in sync all night, with Symon, Doyas and senior Carolyn Dormady taking turns pounding the ball across the net from reliable setters Kaitlyn Cuppett and Megan Wong.
Wong also had a big game from the serving line, producing five aces. She has 27 on the season, 20 of them coming in her past nine matches.
Libero Shannon McCabe controlled the back row and added a pair of aces. Symon was in on three blocks, while Carmody and Kaitlyn Lee also recorded blocks.
While the match was tied at several points, Los Altos never trailed. When the Spartans drew within 17-16 of the third set, Doyas recorded consecutive kills to get the Eagles back on track.
Mountain View was also within 21-19 before Los Altos got a kill from Symon, two aces from McCabe and a Dormady kill to finish it off.
Tessa Hunter turned in a spectacular effort for Mountain View, with Millie Kopp and Andisheh Turner doing their best to keep the Spartans going.
Early in the third set, the blocking duo of Lyric Manson and Fiona Huang had things moving in the right but a series of errors allowed the Eagles to pull away.

Palo Alto (15-11, 5-3) remained in the thick of things after beating Gunn 25-17, 25-10, 19-25, 25-23.
Palo Alto travels to play at Mountain View on Thursday in what could turn out to be a pivotal match for both teams. Gunn (8-15, 1-8) has a bye.
In the West Bay Athletic League, both Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo won matches Tuesday.
Menlo beat Mercy-Burlingame 25-21, 25-12, 25-6 as Simone Adam recorded 13 kills on .419 hitting to with 10 digs and four aces.
Hanna Hoffman and Zoe Gregory combined for 38 assists. Hoffman added nine digs, eight kills and three aces. Cleo Hardin had 11 kills.
Menlo (22-5, 6-0) brings its 12-match winning streak into Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. home match against Notre Dame San Jose.
Isabella Marco had 16 kills and Mia Radeff added 15 in helping SHP top Harker 25-13, 25-11, 25-17 in a home match.
The sophomores also combined for four aces and four blocks. Marco had 12 assists, sharing setting duties with senior Millie Muir, who had 19 assists and seven digs for the Gators (21-3, 5-1), who remain at home Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. match with Mercy Burlingame.
Ellie Wheeler and Iris O’Connor each recorded 10 digs for SHP.
Girls tennis
Menlo downed Crystal Springs Uplands 7-0 in a WBAL match Tuesday at home.
Menlo seniors Tricia Zhang, Brynn Brady and juniors Charlotte Yao and Sofia Labatt all won in singles.
Senior CC Golub and freshman Andra Braicu teamed for a win at No.1 doubles. Senior Alex Viret and freshman Izzy Klugman also won in straight sets while the duo of senior Elizabeth Curtin and freshman Kate Hsia completed the sweep.
The Knights (14-3, 5-1) play Notre Dame-Belmont on Tuesday.
In other matches, Castilleja beat Notre Dame Belmont 7-0 and Harker (9-1, 6-0) beat Sacred Heart Prep (4-11, 1-5) 7-0.
Girls water polo
Los Gatos beat Harker 16-7 in SCVAL De Anza Division action Tuesday to set up Thursday’s showdown at Castilleja, which rescheduled its contest with Los Altos to Friday.
The Gators (12-4, 10-0) have won their past five games and nine out of 10. Los Gatos (18-2, 9-1) is a game behind Castilleja, each with four games remaining.
Mia Knezevic, Siham Arsalane and Maddy Yeung each scored in the third quarter to help break open what was a tight game Tuesday, beating host Palo Alto 8-2.
Kenza Ashworth and Arsalane each scored twice for the Titans. Pooja Bucklin and Nina Albers also scored. Julia Ragno scored both goals for the Vikings.
Gunn goalie Jayden Kratt recorded 11 saves and made one of the team’s 17 steals on the day. Sawyer McKenna, who also had four assists, and Albers each had four steals, with Ashworth adding three.
Gunn is at home against Homestead on Thursday.
