Elif Turgut scored 16 points on 54% shooting and Palo Alto beat host Los Gatos 45-34 in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division girls basketball contest Tuesday night.

Turgut added eight rebounds for the Vikings (7-4, 2-0), who host Saratoga on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Carly Martin scored seven of her 11 points in the first quarter. She added seven rebounds and a team-high four steals.

Paly led 27-18 at halftime but the Wildcats (8-4, 0-1) rallied to close within 33-29 after three quarters.

Ilayda Turgut added five points, nine rebounds and blocked a shot. Delaney Ball also had nine rebounds. Kaella Peters had six points and a team-high three assists.

Priory hit just one of its 16 3-point shots and still managed to sneak past host Notre Dame Salinas 35-30 in a non-league girls basketball game Tuesday.

Aliyah Augmon recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds and also had three steals for the Panthers (7-2), who travel to play Miramonte (13-2) in Orinda at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Anabelle North added eight points and three steals for Priory, which was held to four points in the first quarter.

In the SCVAL El Camino Division, Mountain View (9-2, 1-0) beat host Gunn (0-9, 0-1), 47-23.

In the PSAL North, host Pacific Bay Christian (1-8, 1-0) downed Kehillah (6-1, 0-1), 32-15.

Boys basketball

In a West Bay Athletic League opener Tuesday, Menlo utilized a balanced scoring attack to beat The King’s Academy 53-32.

Cole Kastner scored 10 of his 16 points in the second quarter for Menlo (8-3), which led 28-17 at halftime.

Junior Davis Mead’s 3-pointer gave Menlo an 8-point edge. Senior Justin Sellers stole the ball and fed Kastner for a dunk to extend the advantage.

Kastner added eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks. Sellers had nine points and sophomore Garret Keyhani scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds, four in the first quarter to keep Menlo ahead.

The Knights host Priory at 6:30 pm. Friday.

In Private Schools Athletic League play, Mid-Peninsula fell to visiting Mountain View Academy 67-43 in its Central Division league opener Tuesday.

The Dragons (5-2, 0-1) fell behind 23-4 in the first quarter and the deficit was too much to overcome. Ashaan Dann was 5 of 9 from 3-point range and finished with 17 points. He also had nine rebounds. Andries Castellano added 10 points.

Taylor Young and Dawson Kinnamon each grabbed seven rebounds for Mid-Peninsula.

In the PSAL North Division, host Pacific Bay Christian (11-0, 1-0) downed Kehillah (1-6, 0-1), 68-22.
