A masseur at a Palo Alto day spa has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while giving her a massage, police announced Friday.
Palo Alto police received a call on Aug. 23 at about 8:40 p.m. regarding a sexual assault at the Body Kneads Day Spa located at 810 San Antonio Road, which is near the city's border with Mountain View. A woman in her 30s said she had received a massage at the spa by a masseur, later identified as Gang Wang, earlier in the evening. Wang allegedly rubbed her private area and sexually assaulted her twice during the message. She immediately told Wang to stop, but he allegedly continued to touch her in a sexual manner.
The woman left the spa in shock and reported the incident to police. Investigating officers linked evidence to Wang to support that the sexual assault took place. The Body Kneads Day Spa fully cooperated with police and terminated Wang upon learning of the investigation, police said.
On Friday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant that charged Wang, a 46-year-old from San Jose, with sexual penetration by force and oral copulation by force, which are felonies. He was booked into Santa Clara County jail. Online jail records indicate he's being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Detectives suspect there may be additional victims. Wang came into contact with many clients because of the nature of his job, police said. He went by the name "Adam" at the spa.
Wang worked at Body Kneads for about two years, the business owner estimated.
The arrest has shocked and dismayed her, she said. The business is run legally and workers must be licensed and take 500 hours of training, she said.
"People here work very hard and try to do a very professional service. We keep our place clean and neat," she said. "Everyone is working hard to support their families."
She has been at the Palo Alto location for six years. Wang's arrest is a blow on top of skyrocketing rents that challenge the business, she said.
Anyone who thinks they may have been sexual assaulted by Wang or who has information about this incident is asked to call the Palo Alto Police Department's 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.
