Menlo boys in title game of Burlingame hoops tournament

Menlo School reached the championship game of the Burlingame Lions Club Tournament for the third consecutive year, beating defending champion Stuart Hall 50-34 Thursday night in a rematch of last year's final.

Sophomore Garret Keyhani scored 17 points, making three three-pointers, and senior Cole Kastner contributed 15 for the Knights (2-1), who meet host Burlingame in the title match at 8 p.m. Friday.

Burlingame beat Gunn 70-36 to advance.

Eastside College Prep won its opener at the Burlingame tournament, beating Galileo 58-49. The Panthers lost Thursday and will meet Gunn for the consolation title on Friday.

Girls basketball

Grace Florendo scored 13 points, one of four players to reach double figures, as Sacred Heart Prep beat Castilleja 73-35 in the first round of The King's Tournament on Thursday.

Kennedy Anderson added 12 points while both Denise Stine and Megan Norris added 11 for the Gators (4-1), who meet Valley Christian in Friday's semifinal.

Anna Devitis scored 10 to lead Castilleja (1-5), who plays Fremont in a consolation game.

Aragon and Cupertino meet in the other semifinal.

Santa Clara Tournament

Eastside Prep lost to San Benito, 52-40, in overtime as part of the Santa Clara Tournament. The Panthers were down 20-1 early in the second quarter but then scored the final 16 points of the period to draw within 20-17 by halftime.

Eastside Prep hit four consecutive 3-pointers to spark the comeback.

The Panthers (2-4) took their first lead at 34-33, hitting a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter. San Benito hit four free throws down the stretch to negate another 3-pointer and force overtime.

Girls soccer

Freshman Zoe Weiderhold scored the game winner early and sophomore Emersen Sweeney added a pair of goals to extend the lead as Gunn (2-2-1) handed visiting Valley Christian (3-1-2) its first loss of the season, 3-1, on Thursday as part of the Firebird Invitational.

In a non-league game, Menlo and visiting Hillsdale played to a 1-1 tie. Gabby Kogler scored for the Knights (0-1-3), who meet Piedmont Hills at 1:15 p.m. in the Firebird Invitational at Fremont High in Sunnyvale.

Castilleja topped visiting Priory 2-0 in another non-league contest. Priory plays Santa Cruz at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Firebird Invitational.
