Paly girls win SCVAL El Camino cross country title, boys second

The Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division cross championships were held earlier in the week at Crystal Springs. Palo Alto won the girls race and placed second in boys.

Junior David Evans finished second for the Vikings in 15:56.8 over the 2.95 mile course. Gunn senior Justin Chiao ran third in 16:24.6. Los Altos senior Adam Sage won the race in 15:47.2.

Paly placed all five scoring runners among the top 11, while Los Altos had their top five among the top nine.

Senior Ian Matheson was seventh for the Vikings in 16:39.3, followed by freshman Alex Gao in 16:40.0, junior Lesha Seletskiy in 10th with a time of 16:47.4 and junior Alex Selwyn in 16:47.8.

Gunn junior Henry Moshfeghi placed 13th in 16:54.3 and senior Jacob Acelrod ran 15th in 17:05.7.

Los Altos won the boys race with a score of 25, followed by Paly with 38 and Gunn with 78.

In the girls race, Los Altos freshman Lauren Soobrian won with a time of 17:46.6. Palo Alto freshman Hillary Studdert was second in 18:51.1.

Also scoring for the Vikings were senior Ella Ball, fourth in 19:03.0, junior Hailey Hwang, fifth in 19:13.3, junior Katherine Cheng, ninth in 19:28.5 and senior Kai Douglas, 12th in 19:39.9. Senior Miranda Jimenez was 13th in 19:46.3 and junior Gretchen Berndt placed 15th in 20:10.9.

Junior Izy Hilbert led Gunn with a sixth-place finish in a time of 19:17.3. She was followed by freshman Neha Rishi, eighth in 19:27.0, senior Sophie Alexis, 14th in 20:03.7 and sophomore Amy White, 20th in 20:47.9.

Palo Alto won the team title with 32 points, followed by Gunn with 71 and Los Altos with 76.
