The Palo Alto girls’ volleyball team took a holistic approach in its 25-9, 25-14, 25-18 victory over host Homestead in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division match Thursday night.

Taken as a whole, the Vikings (13-5, 8-0) put together a solid effort to record their fourth consecutive sweep in remaining unbeaten in league play.

“Our girls just played great tonight,” said Palo Alto coach Chris Crader. “All of the girls. In all facets. All match long. It was really fun to watch them play from my front-row seat.”

Palo Alto is entered in the Stockton Classic, at Delta College, on Saturday.

Senior Bekah Limb had a huge serving run from 4-6 to 18-6 to blow open set one. Fellow seniors Mia Gibbs, Grace Thayer and Ashley Xu took turns making plays in the set.

Freshman Jess Watanabe served an ace to finish the third set and Palo Alto’s sophomores and juniors made sure middle part of the match was a comprehensive performance.

Gunn beat host Monta Vista 25-13, 25-13, 21-25, 19-25, 15-9 in another SCVAL match. The Titans (11-11, 3-4), who host Mountain View on Friday at 6:45 p.m., played without two starters.

Menlo-Atherton (17-5, 8-1) returned to the victory circle Thursday, beating visiting Woodside (9-13, 2-7) in straight sets, 25-11, 25-21, 25-16. The Bears remain atop the Bay Division of the Peninsula Athletic League, a game up on Aragon.

Senior Natalie Grover led M-A with eight kills and nine digs, juniors Emma Spindt and Semaijah Ix-Siu each added six kills, senior Olivia Lang returned to the lineup, after recovering from a concussion, to contribute five kills and senior Marit Hoyem had three kills, three digs and three blocks.

Senior Mariah Grover recorded 16 assists while junior Solie Cecil added 10 and senior Bella Shermis and Spindt each had five digs.

The Bears face two tough match-ups next week, Tuesday on the road vs. Carlmont and Thursday at home vs. Hillsdale.

In the West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division, Sacred Heart Prep (16-7, 7-2) beat visiting Mercy San Francisco 25-11, 25-14, 25-15 as Millie Muir recorded 36 assists and 12 digs.

Elena Radeff led the Gators with 20 kills and Iris O’Connor had 12 digs.

The Gators travel to play Harker at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

In WBAL Skyline Division action, Eastside Prep fell to visiting Crystal Springs Uplands 25-3, 25-13, 25-8 and hosts The King’s Academy at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cross country

In the first West Bay Athletic League meet, the Menlo girls took first and the boys took second in an impressive showing at the Crystal Springs Cross Country Course.

All seven varsity girls’ runners placed in the top 16 (and six in the top 10) and won by more than 44 points. Castilleja was second with 70 and The King’s Academy third with 102.

Seniors Charlotte Tomkinson was second in 18:10.0 and Kyra Pretre took third in 18:12.2, both personal-bests on the 2.95-mile course. Junior Marisa Castagna was fifth in 18:50.0, also a PR.

Castilleja’s Tevah Gevelbar was sixth in 18:51.74, ahead of Menlo seniors Cameron Boom, who was seventh in 19:00.6, and Amanda Foster, who was ninth in 19:09.2. Katie Aufricht was 10th in 19:10.4. Sophomore Pia Gallo took 16th for Menlo in 20:51.1.

Luci Lambert was Sacred Heart Prep’s top runner, placing 11th in 19:32.44. Casti’s Samira Kennedy and Abigail Krenz were 12th and 13th and Ezster Hovath led Priory with a 15th place finish.

In the boys’ race, the Knights took second with 52 points. Crystal Springs Uplands was first with 42 and Woodside Priory third in 67.

Menlo junior Calvin Katz, who transferred from Sacred Heart Prep, was second in 16:05.3 and Kamran Murray third in 16:06.0. In his first league race, freshman Justin Pretre was seventh in 16:50.0.

Priory’s Jason Draxler Sadler raced 16:26.18 to place fourth and SHP’s Matthew Chun was sixth in 16:49.92. Priory’s Jadan Wenceslao was ninth.

Girls tennis

Menlo defeated host Crystal Springs 7-0 in WBAL Foothill Division play Thursday to improve to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in league.

Sophomores Tricia Zhang and Brynn Brady, and freshmen Natalie Westermann and Elsie Ragatz picked up singles wins.

Ellen Cho and Penelope Penn-Patterson won at No. 2 doubles, Elisabeth Westermann and Sienna Bundy took No. 2 doubles and Lindsey Canessa and Alex Viret wrapped up doubles play.

Sacred Heart Prep topped host Castilleja 5-2 at Rinconada Park in another WBAL match.

The Gators (8-5, 3-2) swept the doubles matches and got singles wins from Sara Quinlan and Katie Sinclair.

Mabelle Pasmooij and Yonu Oh won for Castilleja.

Girls golf

Menlo-Atherton improved to 11-0 on the season after beating Hillsdale 236-298 at Poplar Creek on Thursday.

Sophomore Nathalie Benrey earned medalist honors with a round of 40. Katie Spivakosky recorded her low score of the season with a 42.

The Bears have one match remaining before the PAL tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Mercy Burlingame (6-3) won its third WBAL match in a row, beating Notre Dame Belmont 233-298 at Crystal Springs Golf Course on Thursday.

The low scores for Mercy were: Maya Zeidan 40, Brooke Barron 42 and Anais Ko 43. The lows for Notre Dame Belmont were Felicia Wei 49 and Elizabeth Mendoza 51.
