Palo Alto in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division and Menlo-Atherton in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division both finished the first half of their girls’ volleyball league schedules unbeaten.

The Vikings traveled to Gunn and beat their crosstown rivals 25-13, 25-22, 30-28 on Thursday night. The Bears stayed in their lair and topped San Mateo, 25-16, 25-12, 25-20.

Senior Amelia Gibbs hit .667 with 13 kills, a block and a dig, and sophomore Amelia Vugrincic hit .483 with 14 kills and 12 digs to lead Palo Alto (11-5, 6-0), which hosts Monta Vista at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The Titans (10-1, 2-4) have a bye Tuesday and next travels to play Monta Vista at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

Also for the Vikings, junior Sophia Krugler hit .300 with 10 kills, seven digs and an ace in two sets and junior Trisha Razdan hit .375 with eight kills, two digs and a block.

Senior Bekah Limb added 17 digs and an ace, junior Kylie Mies had six digs, two kills and an ace, and sophomore Hillary Cheung had five digs and two aces. Senior Ashley Xu added two kills and four digs in one set of action.

For M-A (16-4, 7-0), senior Natalie Grover led the team with 12 kills, junior Miller Olson, making her starting debut, had 10, junior Semaijah Ix-Siu six, senior Marit Hoyem four, junior Julia Kahle two, and sophomore Merritt Olson added one.

Senior setter Mariah Grover had 18 assists and junior Solie Cecil added 17.

On defense, Bella Shermis returned from her ankle sprain and recorded 10 digs, Natalie Grover had nine, Miller Olson eight and Piper Mueller seven.

The Bears start the second half of the PAL schedule with back-to-back home games next week, facing Burlingame on Tuesday and Woodside on Thursday, both at 6:15 p.m.

The Wildcats beat host Terra Nova 25-22, 25-18, 28-26 as Sarah Strus recorded 20 kills for the second straight match. She added 11 digs and served three aces.

Elena Campbell added nine kills, five aces and 11 digs and freshman Helena Granger added seven kills on 11 swings, without an error for a .636 hitting percentage.

Junior Krista Opp recorded 14 digs and senior setter Molly Buddie had 44 assists for Woodside (9-11, 2-5), which travels to second-place Aragon for a 6:15 p.m. match Tuesday.

Girls tennis

Menlo rolled in a 6-1 victory over visiting Harker on Thursday and is the only team left undefeated in West Bay Athletic League play.

The Knights (11-3, 3-0) extended their on-going state record league winning streak to 261 matches.

Junior Addie Ahlstrom, sophomores Tricia Zhang and Brynn Brady and freshman Charlotte Yao picked up singles victories for the Knights.

Junior Lindsey Ball and freshman Natalie Westermann won in straight sets at No. 1. Sophomore C.C.Golub and freshman Elsie Ragatz won a tiebreaker at No.2 and senior Charlotte Lee and junior Penelope Anderson fell at No. 3 doubles.

Menlo meets Castilleja at the Cubberly Community Center in a league match Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Gators beat host Crystal Springs Uplands 5-2 as Mabelle Pasmooij won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, to spark the victory. Allison Kow won at No. 2 singles and Candina Pavlak took the No. 4 singles match.

Annie Goldman and Lily Taylor won their match at No. 2 doubles and Paisley de Blank and Laura Schusser won at No. 3 doubles.

Cordelia Yu at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles Yonu Ohl and Aramis Mendoza went to a third set tie-breaker before losing.

Notre Dame Belmont beat Pinewood 6-1 in a WBAL Skyline Division match.

In the SCVAL De Anza Division, Palo Alto battled visiting Los Gatos before dropping a 4-3 decision Thursday.

Anya Yakemenko won her singles match and the doubles teams of Rachel Owens and Agnes Mar and Gwyn Wong and Lauren Wong each won. The deciding match went to third set tie-breaker.

The Vikings (9-5, 4-3) travel to play Saratoga at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Girls golf

Menlo senior Vikki Xu earned medalist honors with a round of 41 and the Knights topped Notre Dame Belmont 230-301 Thursday in a WBAL match at Baylands Golf Links.

Seniors Gianna Inguagiato and Sulwen Ma each shot a 42 and junior Sarah Fujimori had a 49. Samantha Stevens, a senior, shot a 56 and Taara Banerjee, a freshman, scored a 69 in her high school debut.

The Knights (8-0) travel to play Notre Dame San Jose at San Jose Muni on Monday at 3 p.m.

Also in the WBAL, Mercy Burlingame (4-3) beat Castilleja (4-5) for the second time, 242 to 246 on a beautiful day at the Palo Alto Hills Country Club on Tuesday.

The low scores for Mercy were Maya Zeidan 40 and Brooke Barron 41. The low scorers for Castilleja were Kelly Yu 40 and Zoya Chughtai 44.
