Stanford's Macario named Pac-12 soccer Player of Week

Stanford junior Catalina Macario earned the Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring a pair of goals in the Cardinal’s 2-1 victory over No. 6 Penn State last week. She also aided in Stanford’s 3-1 win over West Virginia.

Macario, the reigning MAC Hermann Trophy Award winner, earned her third career Player of the Week award from the conference.

Macario moved into 10th place on the school’s all-time goal scoring list with 33 in helping the Cardinal win its season opener for the ninth straight season.

Stanford (2-0) hosts Penn and Sacred Heart Prep grad Mia Shenk in its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday night.

The Cardinal, which also hosts San Jose State and Palo Alto grad Lauola Amanomi on Sunday at 6 p.m., currently own a 29-game home unbeaten streak that dates to November of 2016. Stanford is outscoring opponents by a 100-8 margin in those games.

Cardinal coach Paul Ratcliffe has 298 career wins at Stanford (353 overall) and could reach 300 with a pair of wins this weekend.

Friday night for me is Dick Fregulia jazz but I will try to take in a match this year.
Catalina Macario, that's a name to learn and remember.
