De'aveon Roberts drove in three runs and Ben Lamm pitched two innings to finish Palo Alto's 12-8 victory over Elk Grove in an elimination game of the Babe Ruth 15U NorCal State Tournament at Belmont Sports Complex on Wednesday night.
Palo Alto broke a 2-2 tie with six runs in the top of the third. Remington Allen singled to open the frame and Colin Thibault was safe on an error.
Colin Lee, who had two hits, singled home the go-ahead run and Josh Donaker followed with a RBI single. Ben Szeto added a two-run double in the inning.
Garrett Miller added a two-run single and Roberts tripled in another as Palo Alto made it 12-3 after four innings.
Donaker appeared to be in complete control through 4 1/3 innings, striking out seven. He walked three straight and all of them scored before Isaac Wyant came on to get out of the fifth inning as Elk Grove pulled within 12-7 after five.
Lamm pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits, and striking out one.
Palo Alto advances to Thursday's championship game against Bel-Mateo and must win twice to advance to the regional tournament. The first game is slated for 5 p.m. at Belmont Sports Complex.
