Authorities investigating two homicides on Skyline Boulevard

Tuesday night's stabbing death near scene of where first homicide victim found the night before

Authorities have identified the suspect arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly killing a man found Tuesday night on Skyline Boulevard near where another stabbing victim was found the night before as Malik Dosouqi, 26, of Pacifica.

The victim has been identified as John Sione Pekipaki, 31, whose town of residence is unknown.

Bay Area news sources have reported more information about Abdulmalek Nasher of Pacifica and John Pekipaki, the two apparent murder victims whose bodies were found near Skyline Boulevard late in the evenings on Monday and Tuesday.

Nasher, 32, was a Yemeni-American cab driver who received a work call to go to the Skyline Boulevard location late in the evening on Monday, according to KTVU-Channel 2.

Pekipaki was a tow truck driver for Specialty Towing in East Palo Alto who had been called to the scene late in the evening on Tuesday in order to help a stranded motorist, according to the TV station.

"It was foggy up there and he couldn't find the person who called for service," said Lene Lauese of East Palo Alto, who works at a tow yard next door to Specialty Towing, according to KTVU. "He told the receptionist he's going to leave and go back."

On Tuesday night, deputies investigating Nasher's death heard a man calling for help just before midnight. They found Pekipaki lying on the ground in a turnout off Skyline, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

San Mateo County sheriff's deputies arrested Dosouqi as he fled the scene of the second fatal stabbing in a vehicle shortly after midnight. The victim died of his injuries at the scene.

"Simultaneously, near the scene in this remote area, deputies saw a man fleeing the area, in a vehicle, who they believed to be the suspect," the news release says.

"A deputy fired at the oncoming vehicle which was driving towards the victim and both deputies. The suspect was not hit by gunfire, but the vehicle went off the roadway into a ditch. The suspect was taken into custody and is receiving medical care for a laceration to his arm." He will be booked into the San Mateo County Jail once he is medically cleared, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The two slayings happened in close proximity to each other, according to the Sheriff's Office, and investigators are "actively looking into a connection" between them.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe confirmed with Channel 2 an incident from earlier this year involving the suspect. On March 14, sheriff's deputies were called because Dosouqi was walking in the middle of the highway trying to touch motorists. It happened on Highway 1 at Coronado Avenue in El Granada, north of Half Moon Bay.

Search for the killer

After the first victim was found by a deputy who was driving down Skyline Monday night, the search for the killer included the use of tracking dogs, two SWAT teams, a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft, the news release says. Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place and not open the door of their home to anyone they didn't know or who wasn't a law enforcement officer.

The investigation continued, and evidence discovered during that time led deputies back to the scene to look for more evidence last night; they found the second victim at around 11:55 p.m.

Skyline Boulevard was closed in both directions between Swett and Reids Roost roads much of Tuesday morning, and closed again early Wednesday morning for investigation of the deaths. It was reopened Wednesday afternoon.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Sending sympathies to families and friends of the victims.

Very unusual circumstances to have 2 murders 24 hours apart in the same location.
I wonder if the suspect and second victim returned to the scene of the first murder to search and remove any incriminating evidence and then one turned on the other?

Other news reports say the first victim was a taxi driver who was called to pick someone up at a location on Skyline. The second victim was a tow truck driver who was called to help someone on Skyline.
