PUF Caps extend baseball winning streak to five games

Steven Zobac, who will be playing at Cal in the fall, collected five hits, including a home run, and drove in six runs and the Pacific Union Financial Caps remained unbeaten in five games this summer, beating the West Coast Kings 17-8 in a Collegiate Summer League baseball game Wednesday at Palo Alto High.

Aaron Roberts, also headed to Berkeley, added four hits and drove in four runs for the Caps, who travel to play a 6:30 p.m. game against the San Francisco Seagulls at San Bruno Park on Thursday.

Jake Harrell, a Fresno State commit, tossed 4 2/3 innings to gain the win. He gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits. The left-hander struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

Recent Woodside graduate Joseph King and Ethan Cloyd each added a pair of RBIs for PUF, which returns to Palo Alto for a game against the San Francisco Seals on Friday at 5 p.m.

The Caps led 5-1 after two innings and then exploded with four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Will Worthington, Zobac and Caiden Matheny each singled to load the bases with no outs. Roberts cleared the bases with a double and later scored on a King groundout.

In the fifth, Zobac drove in two with a single, Roberts added an RBI single and King hit a sacrifice fly. Another run scored on an error.

Zobac also doubled while Roberts added a triple. Ryan Flaherty hit a home run. The Caps collected 19 hits in the contest.
