Nathan Nakamitsu pitched out of trouble all afternoon and his teammates rewarded him by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Milpitas 5-4 in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division contest on Thursday.

Cole Mantovani drove in two runs, including the game-tying run, for the Titans (11-10, 10-2), who improved their standing, as Santa Clara fell to Monta Vista, 7-1.

Milpitas scored four runs, three unearned, in the first two innings but Nakamitsu, who gave up nine hits and struck out six, stranded 10 runners. He also collected a pair of hits.

The Titans scored a run in the second when Josh Pennington was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Aidan Everett doubled and eventually scored on an error in the fourth.

Nakamitsu, after retiring the side in order for the only time in the top of the seventh, singled to start the bottom half. He was erased on a fielder’s choice grounder by Ryan So but Mike Panitchtipak followed with a double and Mantovani tied it with a single. Eric Epstein delivered his second game-winning hit of the season to end it.

Panitchtipak finished with three hits and Epstein and Ben Goldof each added a pair of hits.

Gunn travels to San Mateo to play the Bearcats at 3 p.m. Saturday in a non-league game. The Titans are up by a game in the loss column with four league games to play.

PAL Ocean Division

After the dust settled following Thursday’s action, Woodside found itself tied for first place with Aragon and Half Moon Bay.

The Wildcats did their part with a 14-1 decision over Mills as Owen Crevelt homered twice, doubled twice and drove in six runs. Woodside (12-8, 7-3) is currently the hottest team in the league with its five-game winning streak.

Half Moon Bay edged Aragon 2-1 to help scramble the standings. Menlo-Atherton missed a chance to share a spot at the top, losing to El Camino, 9-1. The good news is the Bears (8-12, 6-4) didn’t lose ground and remain a game out of first with four to play.

Washington State-bound Joseph King also had four hits for the Wildcats, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs. Dylan Barnwell added two hits and drove in a pair. Trent Barnwell also had a two RBIs and Harrison Kraus recorded two hits.

King allowed a run on two hits in his five innings. He walked one and struck out nine. Tristen Cagno picked up three strikeouts in two innings.

Woodside travels to play Lynbrook at 11 a.m. on Saturday before resuming league play at Aragon on Tuesday.

Menlo-Atherton wasn’t able to get much traction against the Colts, collecting five hits, including two each from Rowen Barnes and Kyle Hartmanis, who drove in the only run.

The Bears look to claw their way back with an 4 p.m. league game at Sequoia on Tuesday.

Softball

Megan Barstad collected three hits, including a triple and double, and drove in two runs, Gianna Voltattorni added a pair of RBIs and Woodside beat Capuchino 10-1 in a PAL Bay Division game Thursday.

Devon Sheehan pitched a nine-hitter wiuth a pair of strikeouts and no walks. She also drove in a run for the Wildcats (6-10, 4-5), who greet Branham for a non-league game Friday at 4 p.m.

Kassidy James added three hits and drove in a run, Amanda Chow tripled and doubled, and Anissya Avendano, Emma Kinder and Madi Truesdale each drove in a run.

Girls lacrosse

Gaby Nightingale and Bella Ramon each scored twice and Alia Singh recorded nine saves but Castilleja (4-8-1, 2-6-1) fell to Burlingame 13-6 in a West Bay Athletic League contest.

Megan Foreman and Lilah Penner-Brown also scored for the Gators, who play at Sacred Heart Prep on Tuesday.
