Below is a list of local and regional service closures and modified schedules in observance of Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 18.

City services

• City of Palo Alto: All city administrative offices will be closed.

• Police, fire: Emergency, police and fire teams will work on a regular schedule.

• Palo Alto Library: All library locations and administrative offices will be closed.

• Garbage pickup: Regular service.

• Parking: Parking regulations will not be enforced.

Transportation

• Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority: Regular service.

• Caltrain: Service will be on a modified schedule that can be viewed here.

• SamTrans: Service will operate on a regular, non-school day schedule.

Schools

• Palo Alto Unified School District: No school in session.

Federal, state offices

• U.S. Postal Service: All post offices will be closed. Mail will not be delivered or sent in observance of Presidents Day.

  1. The actual reason the date was set in 1968 was because of Martin Luther King’s birthday being celebrated in January. Prior to that, both Feb 12 and Feb 22 were holidays. Feb 12 for Lincoln and Feb 22 for Washington.   2. Public school teachers & government employees get far more paid holidays/time off than the average American worker.

    They should take this added benefit into consideration when asking for a raise.

    Everyone could use more pay.
