Menlo-Atherton turned a tight game into a rout Wednesday, beating visiting Mills, 71-38, in a Peninsula Athletic League South Division boys basketball contest.

James Beckwith made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Bears (13-3, 5-0), who turn their attention to Woodside for a league contest Friday at 7:45 p.m. The game will be preceded by the varsity girls contest at 6:15 p.m.

M-A scored the first 19 points of the second half, holding the Vikings (7-10, 3-2) scoreless for over six minutes of the third quarter.

Nick Tripaldi and Will Beasley hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get the run started. Heath Hooper hit a pair of free throws, Justin Anderson scored and Skylar Thomas hit a bucket before Mills called its first timeout.

The Bears never slowed down, with Thomas and Tripaldi scoring ahead of Trevor Wargo's 3-pointer before Mills finally ended the run with under two minutes to play in the third.

Menlo-Atherton, which has won nine straight, out-scored the Vikings, 48-18 in the second half after holding a slim 23-20 edge at halftime.

Mills held the lead for the first 12 minutes of the game. That's when Beckwith knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to give M-A the lead for good.

Thomas added 13 points for the Bears and Beasley had 10 as they maintained an undefeated mark in league play.

In another PAL game, Burlingame topped Woodside, 67-42. The Wildcats (5-12, 0-5) have lost five straight.

The Private Schools Athletic League North Division contest between Kehillah Jewish and Summit Prep, scheduled for the Boys and Girls Club in Redwood City, was postponed due to a scheduling conflict.

Menlo School rolled past visiting Notre Dame Belmont, 59-25, in a West Bay Athletic League game Wednesday.

The Knights (15-1, 4-0) travel to Los Altos Hills and meet nationally ranked Pinewood (14-1, 4-0) at 5 p.m. Friday. Pinewood has won 59 consecutive WBAL regular-season games.

Menlo brings a 13-game winning streak into the fray, its longest since winning 18 straight en route to the 1990 state title.

Sophomores Georgia Paye, who scored a career-high 11 points, Coco Layton and Avery Lee combined to make nine 3-pointers as the Knights opened a 10-point lead by halftime after the Tigers (8-8, 0-5) stayed within a point over the first period.

Menlo-Atherton's game at Mills was suspended in the third quarter because of a leaky roof.
