Paly grad to speak on panel on 'Building Better Athletes'

 

Palo Alto grad Colette Lucas-Conwell is part of a panel that will discuss "The Connected Athlete: Building Better Athletes," in Las Vegas as part of the Consumer Technology Association convention.

The seminar will be live-streamed beginning at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 8).

Lucas-Conwell, the first woman to be invited to train as a coxswain for the United States men's national rowing team, is a two-time world champion in Under-23 Women's Eight, a two-time All-American while at Virginia and a four-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion.

She currently works in the Office of the President for the Oakland Athletics, where she is involved in the development of the new ballpark set to open in 2023.

Lucas-Conwell continues to train with the national team and set a goal to cox the Men's Eight to a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

I'm not sure what "connected" means in this context, so I'll try to listen in, 1.5 hours from now.

But certainly, thinking of connectivity, I have found the network between rowers to be very close and useful for building long-term friendships and establishing immediate bonds other people who rowed, young and old, male and female (and everyone in between!).

For example, oarsmen are my best group of friends from college, decades ago.
